Teacher Preparation at the University of Toledo

The University of Toledo Accelerated Licensure Alternative Master’s Program (LAMP) is a highly selective one-year cohort program that begins in August and ends the following August. Accelerated LAMP students receive a master’s degree in education and licensure in either middle childhood (grades 4-9) or adolescent and young adult (grades 7-12) education. Students complete professional education coursework for the full year, along with working in a classroom with a mentor teacher for methods experience and the internship. Students will have both designated faculty members and a field instructor assigned to monitor and assist throughout the program. The University of Toledo is a participant in the Woodrow Wilson Ohio Teaching Fellowship. Those interested in becoming licensed Science or Math teachers may apply for this prestigious fellowship, and if accepted, will be admitted to the Accelerated LAMP. Schools/Districts Working with the University of Toledo

The University of Toledo has partnered with several high-need school districts in Lucas County and Wood County to provide our LAMP students with highly qualified mentor teachers for method and internship placements.

  • Toledo Public Schools is the fourth largest public school system in the state of Ohio. The Lucas County urban district is home to 41 Elementary Schools and 8 High Schools. The State Report Card shows Continuous Improvement for the district the past 5 years.
  • Springfield Local Schools in Lucas County has 4 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school. The urban district received Excellent ratings on their State Report Card for the past three years.
  • Oregon City School District in Lucas County includes 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 1 high school. The State Report Card shows Adequate for the high school and Effective for the middle schools.
  • Rossford School District in Wood County serves students who reside within the cities of Rossford, Northwood and Perrysburg and Lake Townships. The rural district has received an Excellent rating on the State Report Card for the past 3 years. The district schools include 3 elementary, 1 middle school and 1 high school.
  • Penta Career Center is a rural magnet high school in Wood County for more than 16 different districts for students interested in College Tech Prep, which integrate high academics and challenging career technical programing.

Tuition and Assistance at the University of Toledo

The cost of attending the University of Toledo is approximately $5,843 for residents and $18,635 for non-residents.
