About the University of Cincinnati

Ohio’s premier urban research university, the University of Cincinnati, traces its origins to 1819 and is a part of the University System of Ohio. UC is classified as a Research University with very high research activity by the Carnegie Commission and is ranked as one of America’s top public research universities by the National Science Foundation. Efforts in STEM education are distributed across three colleges: Education, A&S, and Engineering. The College of Education works with area school districts to develop new science and mathematics teachers. UC is located in the hills overlooking Cincinnati, the first major inland city in the country.

Teacher Preparation at the University of Cincinnati

The process at UC to prepare teachers for both urban and rural schools begins with the immersion of candidates into classroom settings and direct contact with students. As the new teachers gain understandings of their learners and their lives, effective instructional strategies are developed. Support is provided through coaching and mentoring by program faculty and experienced teachers. The new teacher candidates are challenged to reflect on their performance and ways to improve as well as to develop new understanding of the content they are teaching.  More information
